Cellhire has mirrored the success of Team GB at the Beijing Olympics. The company deployed in excess of 5000 Chinese SIM Cards at The Games, providing China-wide coverage and significant savings to customers from around the globe, when compared to traditional ‘roaming’ charges.
Cellhire worked with the British Cycling team to provide effective mobile communications for the duration of The Games. The idea was part of a carefully orchestrated approach to rid the riders of any peripheral concerns and enable them to focus solely on their performance – and what a successful strategy that turned out to be!
Rebecca Adlington, the swimming gold medallist in both the 400 metres and 800 metres freestyle, turned to Cellhire after her mum, Kay, had read about our credentials in the press. Rebecca took aJapanese handset for her time at the pre-games training camp and the Adlington family then took Chinese SIMs, enabling them to communicate cost-effectively throughout Becky’s swimming triumphs.
UK Athletics and The British Triathlon Federation also used Cellhire as their communications specialists for The Games. From a UK media perspective, the BBC, Associated Newspapers and Guardian Newspapers all turned to Cellhire to ensure that content could be effectively communicated back to the UK in time to meet rigorous deadlines. Globally, clients included Nike Europe, 4 Olympic Committees and numerous television and radio stations.
Matt Bennett, Cellhire’s UK MD commented; “It’s great to have been able to work with Team GB and contribute in some small way to their success. For us it’s about far more than just selling SIM cards; it’s about the service we supplied, with 24/7 support and field staff on the ground in Beijing to help our customers. It all went very smoothly and has hopefully enhanced the reputation we’ve built up over the last 20 years, of being the best in our field.”
